"These artworks depict events, or what appear to be events. They involve people who are in the act of doing or observing something which is not altogether clear but an underlying anxienty motivates them. The paintings and drawings document the individual as being lost; the participants in these artworks are looking and moving towards something, but what that is exactly is unknown, it is kept out of sight. In a sense the participants are captured in a moment where the past and the future push in heavily. It is an 'in between' moment, where something significant has just happened and as a result something consequential is about to take place." - Michael Peck 2002 |
